Remember

When Melissa's eye got all red
and she walked around in sunglasses for the entire day?
but then accidentally took them off in the subway?
yeah... me too.

Miss your face

I've edited about .05% of my photos from our trip. I plan to continually post randoms until I'm done.

Half Marathon Q&A

My sister posted the following comment and I decided to make a post out of it, because I am bad at referring back to comments and I thought this would be good to remember:

Melissa Anne said...

ash this is awesome! did you get a runners high at all during the race? did you stop to pee? how do you feel today? i'm so intrigued!

I'm not sure that I got a runner's high, but I did feel like I kept myself in "the zone" for a lot of the race. I was really struggling through a lot of it to keep my speed around where it was, so that may be why I didn't hit it, but who knows.
I didn't stop to pee at all during the race and that was a huge concern of mine! I did hop into one of the hundreds of port-a-potties they had at the start area right before the race started. I think that this was really helpful. I also only went to about half of the water stations (I think 4 in total) that they had along the course. I felt really hydrated throughout the race and really just used them as a way to take a short walk break so that I could recharge and run faster.

I also took a Shot Blok around mile 6 but it made my stomach hurt so I didn't take any more. Usually they help me out, but I think since the race started so early in the morning, my body was just not very used to having something like that at the time.

On Monday I felt really sore... my legs and hips were really tight and I seriously considered working from home that day. One of my toenails also hurt. I was actually afraid to look at it after the race because I thought it was going to turn black and fall off like I have heard runner's talk about, but so far it has just been a bit painful and that's it! The good news is that each day my muscles feel a bit less sore than the day before. I've talked with friends who have done races this length and they say that it will take at least 5 days to fully recover.

Hopefully that's everything! When's your first half Melis?

Ode to 2010

Thought I would do one more 2010 recap in photos to capture the year in one post (last 2010 post, I promise). It was really a fun year all together and seeing all of these photos in one place, reminds me that I should really blog more throughout the year to capture all of these events.

Sister Sister

Okay, so I promise I am not going to reflect on the ridiculous TV show from the 90s. However, do you see the hats in the picture above? I may have sported a few a la Blossom around that time of my life. Thankfully it was a time before digital photography took over the world!!

I actually came across this article from the NY Times today named, "Why Sisterly Chats Make People Happier". It makes me miss my sister who I won't get to see until the end of December!

See, don't we look happy? Miss you Melis.

23!

Today my sister is 23! She is the youngest in the family so the fact that she is now 23 makes me feel like life is going by way too quickly. If digital film was around back in the late 80s I would for sure be posting a ton of pictures today of my sister in her famous bowl haircut, but fortunately for her I have not gotten around to transferring all of our film negatives to the computer.

Charlie is a big fan of her in whatever haircut she has, but I know if he had seen her in the bowl cut that would have been his favorite too.

Melissa is the most thoughtful and organized of all of the Maxon children. She is also a really excellent cook. In fact you can see some of her recipes on her blog (which she needs to start posting on again).
Even though I haven't seen her in what seems like a million years, we are closer than ever and I know that one day she'll move to the same state that I'm in (right?). Also she is pretty too! See...

Happy Birthday Melis!! Love you

Hi Melis!

Found this photo going through pics from our ADK trip this summer. I think you should come visit me soon so we can have more moments like this :)

22

So if you saw my last post, you probably figured out that my Friday has something to do with kickball... Of course, you're right! I participated in a work kickball tournament in the Denver area on Friday and our team placed 2nd! Of course, I forgot my camera, so I have no good images to show you, but overall it was a fun time. I hadn't played kickball in over 10 years so it helped me connect with my school days :)

Another big thing happened on Friday. My sister Melissa turned 22! She's the youngest in the family, so the fact that she is now 22 kind of makes me feel old, but I'm excited for her because it is such a fun age to be. If you haven't been there yet, you should go check out her great blog. She's just getting it started like me and has such creative ideas and great style. The pic below is of her and her boyfriend Eric from a recent trip we took to New York. Aren't they cute?!

Happy Birthday Melis! Love you- xoxo
